Tengroth växte upp i en kristen familj i Beirut och kom till Sverige som åring när hon gifte sig med en svensk FN-soldat.

Hon har intresserat sig för kvinnors livsvillkor i Mellanöstern i en rad olika dokumentärer och spelfilmer.
